This couple was seeking to create a modern sanctuary for their home located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego. Key to the design process was creating indoor/outdoor environments that could be utilized year round for entertaining. The couple was interested in green design strategies as well. The house is a net zero home which uses passive solar design and sustainable building materials and methods throughout. There is a rooftop array of 26 solar panels which produce over 10,000 kWh/yr of energy, a Savant smart home automation system, Nest thermostat controls, automated skylights for natural ventilation, LED lighting, bamboo flooring, locally manufactured cabinetry, quartz countertops made in the USA, a solar heated salt-water swimming pool and drought tolerant landscaping.
